The Q4 Vistage CEO Confidence Survey stated that …”the expected upsurge in business prospects have given a new urgency to finding, hiring, training, and retaining employees. This was the most significant and challenging issue voiced by CEOs in the latest survey. More than one-third of all firms expressed staffing and talent management as both their most significant current issue as well as their biggest challenge for 2017”.

So, what are you doing to consistently train your team to beat the competition?

I have heard from CEO’s recently that, yeah, they really should increase training as a focus in the company. They are surprised at how much their teams don’t know. Especially, as most companies have selectively added new staff over the last 2 years.

What an opportunity! Don’t you have experienced, knowledgeable people, long time employees who could share their expertise? Would that cost you anything other than time?

And, how many times should you hold the training? Not just once.

And, then, do you follow up with testing for comprehension and actually following the training?

I see lots of companies that have really good written procedure and they aren’t being followed consistently. Why? Because there are no consequences for deviating. So, train everyone again and hold them accountable for doing it according to the procedure every time.

Great training will also be a retention tool. High performers want to know what is expected and then go do it. If it really doesn’t matter if they do a good job, they won’t stay. They also want to keep learning from their job. Make it fun and you may have team members stay just because of job satisfaction.

How much did that cost you?
