At the APICS Symposium on April 30th, the panelists were asked ”How do you lead?”

Dr. Chris Gopel, executive director at the Drucker Center for Supply Chain & Logistics, said:

Lead by:

Example,

Metrics, and

Consequences.

C.J Nord, ISM Committee Chair: Port of Long Beach Working Groups and Supply Chain Manager said:

Lead with love. Look for talent with empathy and high EQ.

Brian Reed, of Niagara Bottling said it was L.I.F.E.

Lead like an owner

Innovact – that is a combo word of innovate then act.

Find a way.

Empower people.

Each panelist had a different way of describing leadership in his/her organization. That is how we end up with different corporate cultures. Yet, each one was clear about what mattered. Can you describe what it means to lead in your organization?

Followers (also know as team members or employees) would really like clear guidelines from you. Your continued success may depend on it. This week spend some time thinking about how you lead. Talk about it with your senior team. Is it effective? Do you need to “innovact” about your leadership style?

Have a lovely Mother’s Day. Acknowledge someone who made a difference in your life. (HInt: It is okay if it is not your Mother)
